Seattle Restaurant Week

My hubby and I do date night every week, usually on Friday, to spend some quality time together. Even though we live in a one-bedroom apartment and spend time with each other every night, we think it’s important to set aside some time for intentional “dates” throughout our typical weeks. Some of our date nights have included cooking a new meal together, trying new restaurants (or revisiting our favorites), going for a long walk, seeing a movie, and playing our favorite games — we even made fried pickles one night!

We broke our weekend date night rule this week and went out on Wednesday to participate in Seattle’s Restaurant Week! This year over 150 gourmet restaurants participated. The menus are typically a pre-set $28 three-course meal. You may not be able to order exactly what you would choose, but it’s a great way to try a new place that you wouldn’t otherwise visit. We went to Wild Ginger, a James Beard Award winning restaurant. Their website says it has been “featured in top ten lists of national publications, such as Gourmet, Bon Appetit, Atlantic Monthly, People, Conde Nast Traveler, Money Magazine, Forbes RYI and The New York Times,” which we actually did not know at the time! This restaurant was fantastic, and I would recommend it to any of my Seattle friends :). We also had a gift card, which made it even better!

This picture was taken for a “guest post” (i.e. Matt wants to blog about his love of beer and brewing), so it may reappear one of these days.

We started off with curried vegetables in puff pastry.

Enjoyed some chicken potstickers.

Matt ordered a 7 flavor beef (lemongrass, peanuts, hoisin, chilies, basil, garlic and ginger).
I forgot to take a picture of the coconut fried chicken that I ordered.
It was good, but I secretly liked Matt’s meal better even though I don’t really like beef!

We finished with the best dessert I have had in a long time – cardamom pineapple cheesecake.
Yum. Just hearing it again make my mouth water.

After dinner we walked around downtown and did a little shopping.  I added a couple new maternity items to my closet!
And that, my friends, was our restaurant week date night :).

Does your city have a restaurant week? Do you have a weekly date night?
We would love some new date night ideas from you!
